With the Beijing 2008 Olympics there is a keen interest to be aware of when and how new opportunities come out but it is often a challenge for overseas observers to find the information.
Our focus will be on opportunities in the greater Beijing area but occasionally we will list projects in other locations.
This section will be regularly updated. When tenders are closed, they will be removed after a certain time.

• Beijing - National Library of China
  Notice 2 April 2003
  The National Library of China plans to implement the National Library of China Phase II & National Digital Library of China Project.
  Project brief: scale: 77,687m2; investment on construction and installation is RMB 0.6 billion.
  Scope: National Library of China Phase II, includes a bibliotheca containing 12 million books, reading rooms with 2000 seats, National Digital Library and accessory facilities.
  The purpose of the invitation for bids is: to decide the architecture design scheme for the project; and to select the qualified design organization.

• Beijing - Beijing Shooting Range

  In charge: State Sports General Administration.
  The venue to be used for the 2008 Olympics is located in the west of Beijing and has 9,000 seats.
  Two design venues were chosen out of six architecture companies (including Australia, Germany, Spain)

• Beijing - Laoshan Cycling Velodrome
  Update 20 March 2003
  In charge: State Sports General Administration.
  The venue to be used for the 2008 Olympics is located in the west of Beijing and has 6,000 seats.

• Beijing - Invitation for Bids - Steam and hot water boilers
  Notice 28 February 2003
  Related to the Second Beijing Environmental Project and on behalf of Beijing Shi Huan Jie Tian Energy Technology Development Company
  Includes six packages such as gas- fired steam boilers (20 sets), gas-fired hot water boilers (66 sets), cast-iron hot water boilers (150 sets) and accessories.

• Beijing - Invitation for Pre-qualification - Co-generation Works
  Notice 25 February 2003
  Related to the Beijing Environmental Improvement Project for the Co-generation Works of Beijing Electronic Zone.
  Package refers to a natural gas combined cycle power generating facility with two sets of gas turbines and one set of heat recovery steam generator.
  Documents are available from 3 to 7 March 2003.

• Beijing - Detailed Planning Design for the Beijing CBD (Central Business District) Core
  Notice 13 January 2003
  Eligible contributors are invited to sign up from 12 January to 15 February 2003 and candidates must submit the "Qualification Examination Form".
  Qualified candidates will be notified by 15 February 2003 and will be able to buy the "Soliciting Booklet" as from 15 February 2003.
  The deadline for the submission of the planning design is 15 May 2003 at 5 pm.
  There will be one "first prize", two "second prize" and three to five "excellent prize" Status: participation is closed.
  

• Beijing - Prequalification for the design of the National Swimming Center
  Notice 10 January 2003
  Beijing has launched the international "Prequalification for Competition for the Design of the National Swimming Center". The documents will be available from 15 January to 19 February 2003. The deadline for submission is 20 February 2003 at 16:00.

Investment Opportunities

• Tanggu (Tianjin) - Crude Oil and LPG Terminal, Storage and Distribution
  The existing JV is looking for additional investor(s). Ideal partners are in the crude oil trading or port logistics. The JV is registered and approved.
  With the 2008 Olympics, WTO and China's concern for crude oil supply & reserves, the JV offers a unique opportunity for port logistics and bulk distribution for car LPG, & crude oil. The JV has approvals for the port terminal, land in the new Tanggu Entrepot Zone, large LPG & other storage, Tanggu-Beijing pipeline. Foreign investment level and scope can be modified.
  A strategy review report in English (30 pages) and an update is available.
  The study shows a serious potential to be the first and largest terminal to import crude oil in the larger region of Tianjin / Beijing where several customers have been identified.
  The JV has land of 400,000 square metre. to accommodate the installation. A study is under way for additional pipelines (crude oil) starting from Tanggu.
